CP Commends Conviction Efforts

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday appreciated all stakeholders for their coordination and efforts that led to the conviction of Asham Aakash Kumar, 18, of Lalaguda, who was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a Pocso Act case.

Kumar, a student, had sexually assaulted his 16-year-old junior after taking her photographs. The XII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Nampally, awarded him 25 years of RI and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for the assault. Commissioner Sajjanar commended the swift investigation and inter-departmental coordination that ensured justice for the minor survivor.

Mulugu SI, cop in ACB Net

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught Ch. Vijay Kumar, sub-inspector of Mulugu police station under Siddipet commissionerate, and his driver Raju, an armed reserve constable, for accepting a bribe inside the police station.

Kumar had demanded and accepted a Rs 50,000 bribe through Raju from a complainant in return for an official favour related to the eviction and possession of a residential property belonging to the complainant’s elder sister. He also promised help in a cheating case filed by the complainant.

The tainted amount of Rs 50,000 was recovered from Raju’s possession. The complainant’s identity has been withheld for security reasons.
