Parliament Winter Session Day 2 Live Updates: Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were washed out on the first day of the Winter Session on Monday, with the Opposition sticking to its demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. But with both the government and the Opposition dialling down their rhetoric, there is a possibility of discussions taking place in both Houses of Parliament in the coming days. As the Opposition pushed for a debate on the SIR exercise, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the government was not averse to discussing SIR or electoral reforms, but said the Opposition should not insist on setting a timeline. During the day, senior Cabinet ministers held multiple rounds of discussions, including one in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s room in Parliament House, to finalise the format of the debate, sources said.

PM Modi targets Opposition: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hit out at the Opposition and accused it of using Parliament either as a “warm-up arena” for elections or “as an outlet to vent frustration after defeat”. Congress hits back: Hitting back at Modi, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the PM, instead of addressing the key issues before Parliament, had once again “delivered dramebaazi”. The reality, he said, was that the government has been continuously “trampling upon Parliamentary decorum and Parliamentary system for the past 11 years”. “The BJP should now end this drama of distraction, and engage in debate in Parliament on real issues facing the people,” Kharge said.
