Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Saturday that the root cause of issues related to the city’s water supply was extremely old pipelines that have not been upgraded in decades.
Mr. Singh said that within one year, the city’s water situation will improve through an infrastructure overhaul.
“There are a lot of places in Delhi where people face issues of polluted water. It is because water pipelines are 40 to 80 years old,” Mr. Singh said.
The Minister alleged that the previous Aam Aadmi Party government did not lay “even a single new pipeline” and “neglected” one of the most basic needs of the people – clean and safe drinking water.
“We are preparing a new master plan for Delhi. New pipelines will be placed. The budget is passed and tenders floated. Work at some places has already started,” Mr. Singh said.
“The aim of the Bharatiya Janata Party government is to deliver swift results. This government is only five months old, but I want to make you all believe that in one year, Delhi’s face will change,” he added.
Mr. Singh said that he has instructed the relevant departments to ensure that timelines are met and the work is carried out with complete transparency, without compromising on quality.
