Rare collections at Andhra Loyola College’s book exhibition

The Fr. Gordon Library on the campus of Andhra Loyola College (ALC) is a bibliophile’s paradise thrown open to the public as part of National Book Week celebrations.

A book exhibition on the theme “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Samman” was inaugurated by P. Ashok Kumar, a philanthropist and a literary researcher, who has embarked on a mission to digitise Telugu books, old pamphlets, songs and books, with his own money. The book exhibition is on till November 30.

Addressing the students, he said events like these would help them inculcate book-reading habit. Mr. Ashok Kumar is also the editor and composer of the recently-released book on ANR centenary celebrations. “The digitisation, which crossed two crore pages, was done under the auspices of Guntur-based Manasu Foundation,” said the ALC Librarian G. A. Prasad Rao.

Besides books on Indian Constitution, photographs of the Constituent Assembly and famed museums of the world, the exhibition also has rare unpublished papers (hand written copies) and other collections of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Oxford English Dictionary in 17 volumes and famous speeches made by prominent Parliamentarians and Noble laureates.

ALC Principal Fr. G.A. P. Kishore, Vice-Principal Fr. Kiran Kumar, Head of the Department of Visual Communication Fr. G. Rayappa and others were present.

New office-bearers

Members of the Andhra Loyola College Staff Association (ALCSA) chose their new office-bearers. G. Sahaya Baskaran is the new Chairman of the association, S.A.B. Nehru is the vice-chairman, D. Praveen secretary, K.Thomas S. Sundar Raju treasurer, D. Tabitha additional secretary and P. Krishnarjuna Rao the joint secretary.

The association members also felicitated John Remalli for completing PhD in Social Work from Acharya Nagarjuna University and Kasaraneni Himajyothi, who completed PhD in Management from VIT University-AP.
