Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, September 4, 2024: Benchmark equity indices ended in red, with Nifty50 giving up its 14-day winning streak, on Wednesday, weighed by negative global sentiments.The BSE Sensex shed 202.80 points or 0.25 per cent to settle at 82,352.64, while the NSE Nifty50 dropped 81.15 points or 0.33 per cent to end at 25,198.70 on Wednesday.
Similarly, on the BSE, 19 out of 30 listed stocks of Sensex ended in the red, dragged by Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, and Axis Bank with a fall of up to 1.29 per cent. Meanwhile, Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever, and Ultratech Cement were among 11 stocks that ended with gains of up to 2.39 per cent.
Broader indices also settled lower except for select Midcap, and Smallcap stocks. The Nifty Smallcap index hit a record high during intra-day deals; however, it retreated to end on a flat note.
The Bank Nifty index snapped its four-session gaining streak, dragged down by Federal Bank, and Bank of Baroda, which led the losses.
The Nifty IT index declined for the second session, mainly dragged down by Wipro. Meanwhile, the Nifty PSU Bank index also declined for the second session, with Bank of India, and Punjab Sind Bank being the top sectoral losers.
