Three persons were arrested for revealing the sex of foetus for money in Salem.
The arrested were identified as R. Venkatesan (44), a resident of Cuddalore district; B. Latha (43), a resident of Viralipalayam; and P. Sakthivel (32).
Acting on a tip-off that a gang was revealing the sex of foetus for money at a house in Belur near Vazhapadi, the Health Department officials, led by Joint Director (Health Services) Nandhini and District Health Officers Soundammal and Yoganand, entered the house. They found that with the help of an ultrasound machine, the gang was revealing the sex of the foetus to a pregnant woman. The officials immediately alerted the Vazhapadi police.
The police came to the spot and arrested Venkatesan, Latha, and Sakthivel, the house owner and are investigating. The police also seized the ultrasound machine, a two-wheeler and a car from the persons.
Police sources said that the Venkatesan had rented the house for the past few months and scanned pregnant women from Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi, and Tirupathur districts and had revealed the sex of the foetus. For revealing the sex, he collected ₹15,000 to ₹30,000. Three persons, Mahalakshmi, Govindaraj and Kanaga from Tirupathur district, acted as mediators for him and the police are on the lookout for the trio, sources added.

Man gets life imprisonment for murdering wife in Salem
Ramachandran (75), a resident of Veeranam, murdered his wife, Chinna Ponnu, in 2010 because of a family dispute. The case was later transferred to CBCID police and they arrested Ramachandran and his two relatives in connection with the murder. The case trial was held at the Salem Mahila Court and on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) the court found Ramachandran guilty and awarded life term in prison and also imposed a ₹5,500 fine. His two relatives were acquitted from the case.

One more arrested in connection with ganja smuggling in Prison
The Salem Central prison warder R. Selvarasu (34) on Friday (November 28, 2025) was arrested for possessing mobile phones, ganja, and pills that were allegedly smuggled for prisoners. The Hasthampatti police registered a case and investigated. Based on that, on Tuesday (December 2, 2025), the police arrested a history sheeter, R. Madhavan (25), a resident of Kitchipalayam who allegedly gave the mobile phones and ganja to the prison warder and are investigating.
