The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption personnel seized unaccounted cash of ₹2.51 lakh from the office of Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Services and a fireman here on Tuesday.
Following information that a large sum of money is to be handed over to Saravana Babu, Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Services, Tirunelveli, as bribe, the DVAC team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Maclaurin Escol and Inspector of Police Robin, raided the office in NGO ‘B’ Colony around noon.
During the surprise check, the police seized ₹2.51 lakh from one of the racks in the office and ₹27,000 from fireman Senthilkumar attached to SIPCOT Fire Station, Thoothukudi.
Mr. Maclaurin Escol and Mr. Robin grilled Saravana Babu, who contended that it was not his money. The police inquired with Senthilkumar, who had brought the money to Tirunelveli.
