Bengaluru: A student of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) second year (19) was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend who later doused her body in fuel to set her ablaze at an isolated place on the outskirts of Chitradurga town on Tuesday evening. The accused identified as Chetan Kumar has been taken into custody by the police on charge of alleged murder and tampering with the evidence.
Police said the deceased girl stayed at a post-metric hostel in Chitradurga and a couple of days back, she left the hostel informing the hostel warden to visit her native village. Later, hostel officials and her parents came to know that the girl was missing and her mobile phone was in switched off mode. Police took up the investigation and came across the victim making her last call to her boyfriend Chetan. He was subjected to questioning.
It was during his questioning by police, the accused reportedly confessed to the murder of his girlfriend over an argument. Chetan is said to have told the police the murder took place when the girl insisted him to marry her.
Chetan reportedly turned down the marriage proposal and an altercation took place between the two led to the murder. In the heat of the argument, Chetan assaulted her and later doused her body in fuel to set her on fire on the outskirts of Chitradurga town under Chitradurga Rural police station limits.
