Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V. O. Chidambaranar (V. O. C.) Port, hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations held at the Port School ground on Friday.
Following the flag hoisting ceremony, he inspected the parade and accepted the salute of the CISF contingent, Port Fire Service and NCC students of the Port Schools.
During his Independence Day speech, Mr. Purohit outlined the port’s upcoming developments, including construction of Berth-10 and North Cargo Berth-4 for bulk cargo handling, dredging in inner harbour and channel to handle vessels up to 15.5 metres and strengthening of existing berths.
He also highlighted the V. O. C. Port’s leadership amongst ports of India in sustainability, under comprehensive green port policy and it’s ‘Plastic Free’ declaration with a strong focus on sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, water conservation and green shipping.
As part of the celebrations, the chairperson also distributed meritorious awards to the officers and staff of the port, port school children and the teachers.
