A day after the Haryana Police arrested YouTuber Jyoti Rani for allegedly spying for Pakistan, the Odisha Police in Puri started an investigation to ascertain if there was any connection between the accused and a content creator in Puri.
Police sources said Jyoti, who had visited Puri in September last year, had met a Puri-based content creator who had also visited Kartarpur in Pakistan recently.
During her visit to Puri, Jyoti Rani had captured images and videos near the Jagannath Temple, a 12th-century shrine.
Puri SP Vinit Agrawal told The Indian Express that police have been trying to verify if the arrested YouTuber from Haryana has any links with the woman in Puri and whether there were any suspicious activities.
“We are also in touch with the state and central agencies and Haryana Police. We have not found anything suspicious so far. If we get to know anything suspicious, we will take steps accordingly,” said Agrawal.
Officials said a team of police questioned the Puri-based YouTuber late Sunday evening at her home and wanted to know details about the visit of the accused to Puri, including the places she had gone to and the people she had met. No case has so far been registered in this regard, a police source said.
Rani, who has a YouTube channel called ‘Travel with Jo’ with over 3,77,000 subscribers, and an Instagram account with over 1,32,000 followers, was taken into custody by Haryana Police after she was allegedly found sharing “sensitive information” with an official of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.
