NELLORE: Renowned Himalayan Guru Jagadeesh Giri Baba said meditation was not merely about sitting quietly and closing one’s eyes, but a disciplined practice requiring preparation of the body, mind and lifestyle.

Addressing seekers at the Dhanvantari Pyramid Society here, Baba said dhyana sthiti should begin with asana and niyama. He advised practitioners to sit on the earth using a simple mat, describing it as a means of maintaining personal energy and discipline.

He stressed the importance of satvik ahara, preferably prepared by oneself, and said gradually reducing food intake could help raise vayu and open the prana kosa.

Baba said the “thoughtless state” could not be achieved by forcibly suppressing thoughts. Instead, sincere inquiry into one’s own existence would ultimately lead to acceptance and inner silence. He said this could open the manomaya and vignanamaya kosas, leading to deeper wisdom and potentially the experience of siddhis.

Distinguishing a master from a Guru, Baba said a true Guru embodied discipline fused with love. He concluded that spiritual attainment lay in karthavya palana—performing one’s duty wholeheartedly wherever one was.
