Google is reportedly introducing a new security feature that will automatically reboot Android devices that haven’t been unlocked for three consecutive days.
This feature is included in the latest Google Play Services update, which notes that Android devices “will automatically restart if locked for 3 consecutive days.”
The reboot will place the device into the Before First Unlock (BFU) state, where data remains encrypted and biometric logins are disabled until the user manually enters their device passcode.
Google Play Services version 25.14 is expected to roll out next week, although the auto-reboot feature may take some time to become active, 9to5Google reported.
Apple had previously introduced a similar feature in iPhones with the iOS 18.1 update, where devices automatically restart if they remain locked for four days.
