Leaders and activists of Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee will hold a protest at the collectorate here on January 6, demanding that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) be saved from privatisation.
Committee leader J. Ayodhya Ramu said that a bike rally would be held from Kurmannapalem Junction (the steel plant’s main entrance) to the Visakhapatnam Collectorate, starting at 9 a.m. on Monday. They will meet the Collector to submit their representations, he added.
During the bike rally and the protest at the collectorate, they will also raise slogans against the governments and appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a favourable statement on the steel plant issue like the merger of RINL-VSP with the Steel Authority of India Limited, during his scheduled visit to Visakhapatnam on January 8, he said.
On the other hand, he said the restoration of the conveyor belts in the VSP, which were damaged recently, was under way and it was likely to take a few more days.
