Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in collaboration with the All India Manufacturers’ Organisation (AIMO), is offering a three-day free training programme on smartphone servicing. Both organisations have signed an agreement to this effect. In the first such session, 25 candidates benefitted, a press release stated.

The training session, being held at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Telecom Training Centre at Meenambakkam, Chennai, was inaugurated by Kalyan Sagar Nippani, director of human resources, BSNL Corporate, New Delhi. R. Radhakrishnan, national general secretary, All India Manufacturers Association, A. Ayyakannu, chairman of AIMO, Tamil Nadu State Board, participated.

Mr. Sagar said mobile technology is an emerging sector service with high prospects for growth and employment. Currently in India, 11.5 million mobile connections are reported with 10 million mobile handsets. With new generation mobile models being released every month in the market, skilled labour is in high demand. The training aims to address this void.

Mr. Sagar said the training is particularly aimed at persons with disabilities and students from marginalised communities, equipping them with skills for self-employment and a sustainable livelihood.

The hands-on training will impart knowledge of the latest trends in chip-level troubleshooting. Trainees will also learn about chips used in smartphones and the safety features of handling such electronic devices.

BSNL and AIMO have assured that more such short-term training programmes will be organised. They are also exploring the possibility of facilitating loans through nationalised banks, a release added.
