A Spanish content creator named Mery Caldass has recently gone viral after a video of her crying at the airport was posted on the Chinese social media platform TikTok. Caldass claims that she missed the flight for a romantic getaway to Puerto Rico with her partner as she relied on OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT, for travel advice. The influencer claims that the AI assistant gave her incorrect information about the necessary travel documents, which made her miss the flight. In the video (seen by The New York Post), Caldass, who has nearly 100,000 followers, claimed that ChatGPT provided false information regarding whether she needed a visa to visit the Carribean island.“I asked ChatGPT and he said no,” she said in Spanish. While European Union citizens do not need a visa for short stays in Puerto Rico, they are required to have an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Caldass admitted she should have sought more information and joked that the AI chatbot was getting “revenge” on her because she sometimes “insults him.”“I don’t trust that one anymore,” she noted, pointing to her AI assistant. Sharing Caldass’ TikTok video on Twitter, a user wrote: “Sobbing influencers blame ChatGPT for ruining a dream vacation An influencer couple has gone viral after missing their flight to Puerto Rico — thanks, they claim, to a visa mix-up caused by ChatGPT. How ChatGPT has reportedly put other users in ‘trouble’

This isn’t the first time seeking advice from AI chatbots has led to ‘problems.’ According to a case report in the American College of Physicians Journals, a 60-year-old man was hospitalised after following dietary guidance he received from ChatGPT.He eliminated table salt from his diet due to concerns about its health effects. Instead, he began using sodium bromide—a compound once found in medications in the early 1900s but now recognised as toxic in high amounts, the report claimed. Doctors later reported that the man developed bromism as a result of this substitution.“He had replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide obtained from the internet after consultation with ChatGPT, in which he had read that chloride can be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as cleaning,” the report noted.
