The Chittoor district police on Wednesday organised a student awareness programme focusing on cybercrimes, women’s safety, drug abuse, and road safety at PVKN Government College, here on Wednesday. The police said that the initiative was part of a district-wide campaign to sensitise youth and students about cyber fraud.
Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath and Urban Inspector M. Maheshwar, and Crime Inspector Umamaheshwar Rao addressed around 200 students and faculty members. The police officials urged students to avoid drug use, adopt healthy lifestyles, exercise caution on social media, and report suspicious calls or links immediately to 1930. The speakers explained the “Digital Arrest” scam, where fraudsters impersonate cyber police to extort money.
The police further promoted the ‘Shakti’ mobile app for women’s emergency assistance and emphasised personal responsibility for road safety and societal well-being. The officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the faculty of the PVKN college were present.
