A wedding celebration at Cheruthuruthi erupted into chaos after local residents clashed with members of the wedding procession that blocked the road on Saturday afternoon. The wedding feast was being held at KJM Auditorium, Vettikkattiri, and the arrival of the wedding party in a long convoy of cars brought traffic to a standstill.

An ambulance got trapped in the resulting traffic jam, sparking anger among residents. Heated arguments broke out, followed by pushing and shoving between local people and guests arriving for the wedding.

As tension rose, both sides gathered in large numbers and the verbal altercation soon escalated into stone throwing.

The Cheruthuruthi police arrived at the scene but struggled to control the crowd. Officers resorted to a lathicharge, after which the stone-throwing intensified, injuring police personnel as well.

The police then launched a stronger intervention and managed to disperse the groups after more than an hour of unrest. Several vehicles involved in the procession were taken into custody. The clash began around 12.30 p.m. and normalcy returned only after sustained police action.
