Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Tuesday, laid the second supplementary estimates (second instalment) of ₹6,279.87 crore in the Legislative Assembly in Belagavi.

The supplementary estimates include ₹6,256.41 crore of voted expenditure, meant for various schemes, and ₹23.46 crore of charged expenditure. The total outgo from the consolidated fund is ₹5,661.76 crore. Of that, ₹2,240.32 crore is covered by the central assistance, the Chief Minister said in his introductory note.

The amount would be sourced from the revenue receipts and, if necessary, through the “reprioritisation of expenditure and probable savings in expenditure and borrowings,” he stated.

The estimates include ₹629.65 crore for the Social Welfare Department, ₹1,935.96 crore for the Revenue Department, ₹127.9 crore for Education Department, ₹338.35 crore for the Forest Department, ₹410 crore for Commerce and Industries, and ₹433 crore for the Public Works Department, among others.

The supplementary estimates include ₹75 crore for the Higher Education Department, and the amount is for grants-in-aid pensions for universities in the state. The State universities have been facing difficulties paying the pensions to their employees. The estimates include ₹9.12 crore that the Home Department would utilise towards infrastructure development in the Naxal-affected areas.
