Hyderabad: A 51-year-old inspector with the income-tax department died by suicide at the CGO Towers in Kavadiguda on Saturday. Police said the deceased, C.N. Jayalakshmi, was undergoing treatment for breast cancer for two years and was battling depression.

Jayalakshmi had been living with her daughter C.N. Bhavana Ramesh, in a rented flat at Venkateshwara Colony, ECIL, Malkajgiri. According to a complaint filed by Bhavana, her mother had grown emotionally fragile after her cancer diagnosis. On Saturday, Bhavana left for her CA internship in Begumpet around 9.30 am. Jayalakshmi had a holiday for Babu Jagjivan Ram jayanti.

Bhavana was informed by the Gandhinagar about the suicide. Jayalakshmi was rushed to the Gandhi Hospital where the doctor declared her dead.

Gandhinagar police station house officer D. Raju said the police received a formal complaint from Bhavana who stated that her parents had separated nine years ago. “Bhavana stated that her mother may have taken the extreme step due to depression and anxiety over her illness,” the official said. Police booked a case of death under suspicious circumstances, and released Jayalakshmi’s body to the family after an autopsy for the last rites.
