Former State unit BJP president K. Annamalai on Sunday said the ruling DMK was arrogant about winning the next Assembly election by bribing voters with the huge money looted by the party in the last four-and-a-half years.

Addressing a public meeting here, he said the DMK had pinned its hopes on getting women’s votes as the State Government had given ₹1,000 monthly assistance under the Mahalir Urimaithogai scheme. “The DMK also believes that if the anti-DMK votes get split, the ruling party can come back to power. Such arrogance should be shattered and the votes of party cadre and the members of public should come to the NDA.”

Taking a veiled dig at TVK leader and actor Vijay, Mr. Annamalai said that people could go to cinema theatres to watch movies of any heroes and enjoy it. “But never ever think that film heroes can give good governance.”

Union Minister L. Murugan countered the Chief Minister’s argument that the Centre was not giving funds for the development of Tamil Nadu. “The Centre has given ₹11 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu in the last 11 years,” he said.

Besides, it had given eight Vande Bharat trains and had taken up redevelopment of several important railway stations.

AIADMK leader R. B. Udhayakumar said that ever since the AIADMK-BJP alliance was formed it was giving shivers to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Party MLA Sellur K. Raju, said the campaigns of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP leader Nainar Nagendran would culminate with a change of guard in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan said a change of guard was imperative to bring development and maintain law and order in the State. “To bring about good governance, like-minded parties which are not in any of the political alliances in the State should join NDA fold to oust the anti-people DMK Government.”
