A first-of-its-kind work-site school for children of construction workers was inaugurated at Narsingi in Cyberabad marking a collaborative effort to bring education directly to labour camps. Cyberabad police commissioner Dr M. Ramesh said, “Without proper care, children in labour camps are vulnerable to exploitation and substance abuse.”
He emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among government departments, private organisations, and NGOs, and noted that teaching children in their mother tongue will improve learning outcomes.
Cyberabad Municipal Corporation commissioner G. Srijana said, “While we may not provide luxury, we must ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for every child.” She assured that caretakers would be deployed and child safety prioritised, expressing hope that the initiative becomes permanent.
Rajapushpa founder Pushpalila said 58 children from Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam were being educated at the camp. She added that teachers had been appointed jointly by the education department and the company, and similar schools would be expanded in future. District education officer Sushendra Rao said, “The government is committed to ensuring education for every child, including those of migrant workers.” He noted that mid-day meals would be provided under existing schemes.
