Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai released ‘Ente Jeevitham Niraye: The Autobiography of a Nephrologist’ written by Dr. K. Thomas Mathew, in Kozhikode on Sunday (December 22). Chairman and managing director of Baby Memorial Hospital Dr. K.G. Alexander received the book while Thottathil Raveendran, MLA, presided over the event.

Dr. K. Thomas Mathew has completed 50 years of service in the field of nephrology. His contributions include establishing Kerala’s first dialysis unit at Government Medical College, Kozhikode, in 1975, performing the State’s first kidney transplant surgery, and launching the first Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) programme. His efforts also led to the inception of the first postgraduate nephrology course in Kerala.

Mr. Pillai, in his address, pointed out that Dr. Mathew’s autobiography mirrors the history of nephrology in Kerala. “This book encapsulates a remarkable life and serves as valuable study material. A sincere account of contemporary life is akin to service to God,” he said.

The book’s prologue, written by Shaji George, was introduced during the event. Former principal of Government Medical College, Kozhikode, Dr. L.V. Swarnam, along with Mathew’s children, Dr. Jayant Thomas Mathew and Dr. Anila Abraham, both nephrologists, were present at the ceremony.
