Haryana men and Tamil Nadu women emerged as the champions in the inaugural National under-23 basketball championships at the Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati, on Monday (March 24, 2025).
Captain B. Sahil contributed 29 points to help Haryana, which led 47-28 at the interval, record a convincing 94-73 victory over Punjab in the men’s title clash.
In the women’s final, Tamil Nadu, which trailed by a point (29-28) at the halfway stage, fought back in the third quarter through Harima Sundari, who scored 22 points and 16 rebounds. Nitika A. (27) was the top-scorer for the winning side.
The champion teams received ₹3 lakh, the runner-up ₹2 lakh and the third-place finishers ₹1 lakh each.
The results: Men: Final: Haryana 94 (Sahil 29, Rajan 26, Deepinder 22) bt Punjab 73 (Rahul 21). Third place: Karnataka 80 (Gautham P.K. 20, Manoj B.M. 20) bt Rajasthan 62 (Akshit Hooda 28).
Women: Final: Tamil Nadu 76 (Nitika A. 27, Harima Sundari 22) bt Karnataka 58 (Sathya K. 16, Sanjana N.K. 16). Third place: Delhi 69 (Rashi Kotan 20, Kritika Dhingra 19) bt Kerala 63 (Akshaya Philip 13).
