The Tripura government Sunday issued a red alert for all eight districts of the state in view of the heavy rainfall in the past two days and the forecast of more rain in the next 24 hours.
“The state government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens and is actively coordinating with all departments for relief, restoration, and risk reduction,” said Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also said he was reviewing the flood situation, and the revenue secretary was in touch with all district magistrates.
The revenue secretary said 14 rescue teams have been deployed at different places in West Tripura and Unakoti districts.
Eleven teams have been deployed in West Tripura district, of which two are from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), three from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), one team each from the Assam Rifles and the Fire and Emergency Services, and four teams comprising members of Civil Defence, Aapda Mitra, and Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Among the three teams positioned in Unakoti district, one is from the NDRF, and two teams consist of Civil Defence and Aapda Mitra volunteers.
Pandey also said that 60 relief camps were operational across the state – 48 in West Tripura, three each in Khowai and Unakoti districts, and six in North Tripura district. As per the latest reports, around 10,600 people from 2,800 families have been shifted to these camps.

He added that 201 houses – 92 severely damaged and 109 partly damaged – in the state have been damaged owing to the inclement weather over the last two days.
Pandey further said that River Howrah was flowing above the danger mark at a height of 10.91 metre at 5 pm near Agartala, but the water level started receding later in the evening.
Meanwhile, owing to the incessant rainfall, Tripura Central University has postponed all undergraduate, B Tech, and diploma examinations scheduled to be held between June 2-4.
Bodhjungnagar in West Tripura district received the highest rainfall (198.5 mm) in the state in the last 48 hours, followed by Kailashahar (192.2 mm) in Unakoti district, Jirania (175.5 mm) in West Tripura, and the state capital Agartala (140 mm).
