BJP members in the Legislative Council on Monday raised the issue of eight crest gates at the Tungabhadra dam not functioning, even as the State government said that it had informed the Tungabhadra Board about the situation and asked the Board to repair them.

BJP member Hemalatha Naik said that eight crest gates -11, 18, 19, 20, 21, 27 and 28 – have jammed. Instead of 105 tmcft of storage, currently only 80 tmcft has been stored, she said, adding that crest gates number 33 experienced problem last year.

Responding to this, House Leader N.S. Boseraju said that ₹ 48 crores has been allocated for repairs and tender has been floated. “A 50 tonne crest gate has been brought to the spot but has not been fixed due to rains. Government will seek Board’s response on this.”
