Kamareddy, Medak Register Record Rainfall in 24 Hours; 3 Killed

Hyderabad: Kamareddy and Medak districts have witnessed unprecedented rains in the last 24 hours from Wednesday.

While Argonda station at Rajampetmandal in Kamareddy received 44 cms rainfall, a total of 23 areas including 10 in kamareddy, four in Nirmal, six in Medak and remaining in Nizamabad and Siddipet received more than 20 cms rainfall. This has been the heaviest downpour in such a short span in the last 50 years.

As many as 15 SDRF teams and five NDRF teams are working 24X7 in these affected districts. In addition, about 100 army personnel from TASA unit Hyderabad are engaged in rescue and relief in Medak district. There have been widespread damages in these two districts.

Kamareddy district

Due to heavy rainfall, six mandals in Kamareddy have been severely affected by floods, namely Kamareddy, Bibipet, Rajampet, Nizamsagar, Yellareddy, and Machareddy. With the coordination of all concerned departments, more than 500 people have been rescued so far. The SDRF team rescued nine workers at BogguGudise and another five people at Gungal Village. It was a difficult operation but they could successfully rescue all of them.

So far, one person has died due to a wall collapse while a car with two people got washed in Neelakattavagu, Domakonda. A railway track has caved at Rameshwarpally in Bhiknoor Mandal and the train movement was stopped until further orders. In Kamareddy town, the Housing Board Colony, GR Colony, Teachers Colony, Sarampally ST Residential School areas were among the worst affected areas. Food and other essential supplies are being provided to the affected people.

The rescue operations were actively going on with the help of SDRF and NDRF teams. Evacuation operation is going on to the affected villagers of Nizamsagar and Pocharam dams.

The National Highway (NH44) has caved in at least three places and as a result, the heavy vehicle diversion from Hyderabad towards Adilabad is done from Medchal-Siddipet- Karimnagar –Jjagtial – Metpally – NH 44 towards Nirmal and light vehicles from Toopran to Siddipet and further same route as decided for the heavy vehicles. For the traffic coming from Adilabad towards Hyderabad, the traffic is diverted from Nirmal Kondaplly bridge to Khanapur – Jagtial- Karimnagar – Rajiv Rahadari – Hyderabad

Medak district

Several areas in Medak district especially Haveli Ghanpur, Papannapet, Ramayampet, Shankarampet (A) and Nizampet are worst affected mandals. The SDRF teams with around 80 personnel and the Army units, in coordination with GOC TASA with around 150 personnel are currently stationed in the district.

The water is overflowing on 47 roads, 23 culverts and causeways and 15 bridges, where traffic on either side has been blocked by barricading and joint teams from Police, Revenue and Panchayath are monitoring these places. At 16 places, tanks have breached and all the affected villages have been alerted and are under constant vigilance.

Around five people were stranded at the Animal Birth Control Centre at Medak Municipal dump yard. NDRF and SDRF teams have successfully rescued them. One person was stranded on the top of a car near Nakkavagu surrounded by water from all sides. A NDRF team has successfully rescued him. Around 11 persons stranded on Wadi Bridge have been successfully rescued.

Around 350 SC Women degree college students were rescued and shifted to safe places in Ramayampet while 80 students from Ramayampet SC Girls hostel were rescued and shifted to safe places. Around 53 families of people from low lying areas in Ramayampet and Medak municipalities and other places have been rescued and shifted to Rehabilitation centres.

Around 375 members from Sardhana Village which may get affected by flows from the Pocharam project have been shifted to Rehabilitation camps arranged at Medak Muncipality as a precautionary measure.

Two persons from Rajpet Village namely Bestha Sathyam and Yada Goud while trying to cross Rajpet bridge were swept away due to heavy flow of GandariVagu. A SDRF team reached the spot with great difficulty but they are still missing. A large extent of the agriculture fields in the district has been inundated. Detailed assessment of crop damage is being done. Damage to roads, culverts, causeways and bridges at 85 major locations is being done. A railway track at Shamnapur on Akkanpet­–Ramayampet line was damaged and trains on this line have been cancelled.

Rajanna Sircilla district

Five people were stranded on an island after the overflow from the Upper Manair dam at Narmala village in Gambhiraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district. It’s a relatively high place with overflow on both sides and efforts are on to evacuate these people. The helicopter took off from Hakimpet at 8 am on Aug 28 but had to come back as it was raining throughout. The NDRF team, in coordination with District administration is trying to evacuate these people

Due to high flow in Upper Manairvagu near Bandalingampally village, Yellareddypet mandal, one side of the bridge is damaged and is closed for traffic.

Nirmal district

There has been extremely heavy rainfall in Nirmal rural, Laxmanchanda, Sarangpur, Soan, Naspur, G Kuntala and Nirmal town in these last three days. In Nirmal town, about 250 families have been relocated from Divya Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Boiwada, and GNR Colony to nearby shelters. One person is stranded in Laxmanchanda and efforts are being made to evacuate him.

Water is overflowing on Sarangpur to Jam Bridge connecting Nirmal to Maharastra and the traffic is stopped at present.

Siddipet district

In Siddipet town, Srinagar Colony and Haripriya Colony were affected.

Nizamabad district

Due to the breach on Hanmajipet cheruvu, water had entered Nadimi Thanda, Kunta Thanda and Birappa Thanda in Dharpally and about 200 families were shifted safely with the assistance of SDRF.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy monitored the situation from time to time and alerted all senior officials and District Collectors concerned. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy along with Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu and Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao held a tele-conference on Wednesday evening with officials of these three districts and have assured of all possible assistance from the state administration.
