THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Police Saturday registered a case against a Tamil Nadu native for assaulting an Israeli tourist who allegedly snatched the former’s mobile phone and threw it in the Arabian Sea.The Isreali, Zayats Sagi (46), did not have a passport and was seen wandering in the locality for the past few months. After a medical team certified he had mental health issues, he was lodged in a mental health centre at Varkala, police said.“The tourist snatched Nandakumar’s mobile phone and ran away. On being chased, the tourist threw the phone in the sea. Annoyed, Nandakumar slapped him. Locals alerted police,” an officer said. Police booked Nandakumar (46) of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu but later released him on bail. Nandakumar works at a private water sporting agency in Varkala.“We have no clue when the tourist reached Varkala. He was not staying at any hotel and slept on the streets at night. He wandered around during the daytime. He was carrying two pairs of clothes while some piece of clothing was tied all over his body as if he had some injuries. He was not carrying a bag or any identity card,” a police officer said.
