BERHAMPORE: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday appealed to the people of Rejinagar Assembly to elect the BJP, promising a special development package similar to Falta.
He arrived in Berhampore by road due to bad weather and rains, chaired a 14‑member party core committee meeting at a private hotel, and later held a Murshidabad district administrative meeting at Rabindra Sadan where he announced several projects. He also inaugurated a special police control room.
Opposition MLAs from Murshidabad, including AJUP chairman Humayun Kabir, were not invited. Asked about this, Adhikary said three MPs — Yusuf Pathan, Abu Taher Khan and Khaliur Rahaman — had met him at Nabanna on Thursday, and assured that no projects would be stalled and all funds would be released.
He remarked that though his government was only two months old, it had not fuelled communal violence in Dhuliyan, Samsergunj or Shaktipur, and minorities were safe in Murshidabad. In a veiled reference to Kabir, who resigned as Rejinagar MLA after winning from Nowda, he warned against political disruption.
Adhikary accused the previous Mamata Banerjee‑led TMC government of looting funds and neglecting development. He promised to check Ganga‑Padma River erosion, create jobs for migrant workers, and build bridges, colleges, industries and women’s empowerment projects in Rejinagar, similar to Falta. He announced that he would visit Shaktipur in August, recalling how the TMC had tried to disrupt his earlier meeting. He also said an 80‑bed facility with four departments had been sanctioned at Murshidabad Medical College Hospital.
Kabir, reacting, said: “I was not invited to the administrative meeting. The chief minister can hold meetings at Rejinagar as it is part of West Bengal, but I will combat the BJP politically.”
