MLA and Chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board Prasad Abbayya has assured to take up development of Nekar Nagar market in Hubballi on priority basis.
He was speaking to presspersons after visiting the market near Basaveshwar Circle in Nekar Nagar and assessing the encroachments in the area along with Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Divya Prabhu G.R.J. and other officials.
Mr. Abbayya said that because of encroachments and other issues, the market was in a bad state and steps would be taken to develop it systematically. He said that the work on expansion of Hubballi-Dharwad Bypass Road into six-lane road along with four-lane service road had picked up pace and narrow road stretches in the city too would be widened in the coming days.
Mr. Abbayya said that encroachments would be identified and steps would be taken to provide compensation wherever private property was required to be acquired. The Deputy Commissioner-led team would submit a detailed action plan on the issue and the Chief Minister would be requested to release additional funds for the purpose, he said.
He said that Urban Development Department had released requisite funds for the development of various circles in the city. However, several of the junctions had not been registered under the government’s name yet. The owners of such lands would be verified and steps would be taken to release the compensation to them. This apart the State and Union governments would be urged to provide requisite compensation to them.
