HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s usually busy roads wore a deserted look on Saturday as the city slipped into a long Independence Day weekend. With August 15 falling on Friday, followed by weekend holidays, many families stayed indoors or travelled out of the city.
Continuous rainfall further kept people from venturing out, leaving major junctions such as Secunderabad, Tank Bund, Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar and Gachibowli sparsely used. Even heavy-traffic stretches like Panjagutta and Kukatpally saw unusually thin movement.
“It felt like a holiday for the roads as well. With people staying indoors, traffic has been easy to manage and civic officials are also completing road repairs,” said a traffic police officer at Amberpet. Officials expect normal traffic to resume on Monday when offices and schools reopen.
