Police in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday registered a case against Malayalam film director P T Kunju Muhammed for allegedly sexually harassing a woman.
According to police, both Muhammed and the complainant were members of the selection committee for the upcoming International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). Muhammed is the chairperson of the committee.
According to police, both of them had been staying at a hotel in Thiruvananthapuram for their selection committee work. Muhammed is accused of having sexually harassed the woman at the hotel during their stay last month.
The woman then complained to the Chief Minister, whose office in turn transferred the complaint to Thiruvananthapuram city police.
The FIR was registered under BNS sections 74 (using force with the intention to outrage the modesty of a woman) and 75 (1) (sexual harassment).
The case was registered after examining the CCTV footage at the hotel to ascertain the presence of the complainant and the filmmaker at the premises, police said.
Muhammed, a noted filmmaker and producer, has also served as a Left-supported Independent legislator in Kerala.
