The Perundurai police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old woman whose body was found at Pon Kailash Nagar near the Vijayamangalam toll plaza in the district on October 17.

The deceased, Uthra, was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Pallagoundenpalayam in Tiruppur district. A missing-person case was registered at the Uthukuli police station on October 15 after she went missing.

During the investigation, the police identified Saravanan, a colleague of Uthra at the hospital, as the suspect. According to the police, he took her on his two-wheeler when she came to Perundurai for work, murdered her to rob her jewellery and fled with the ornaments. Saravanan was arrested on Monday (October 19, 2026). The police said the stolen jewellery had been recovered and that he had been remanded in judicial custody.
