A 19-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 20-year-old woman in GTB Enclave in Shahdara after she refused to end her friendship with another man, a police officer said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Rizwan, a resident of Sunder Nagri, north-east Delhi, shot the woman dead on Monday, and has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 103 (punishment for murder) and Arms Act. He was arrested from Karnal, Haryana, on Wednesday.

During the interrogation, Rizwan told the police that he first saw the woman in the Anand Gram area, near Ghitorni, where he worked as a welder.

The officer said he started chatting with her on Instagram and that they soon entered into a relationship.

However, last month, he saw her with another man and asked her to stop communicating, to which she refused. Angered over her refusal, on April 12, he procured a country-made pistol from his friend and called her to meet him on Monday night at Kodia Colony in GTB Enclave, where after a heated argument, he shot her twice and fled.

Search operations are under way to arrest the person who provided him with the pistol, the officer added.
