NEW DELHI: Star India javelin thrower and double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra on Sunday revealed that he got married to Himani Mor, sharing stunning pictures from the private ceremony.
The 27-year-old tied the knot a couple of days ago and on Sunday shared the news of his wedding, taking everyone by surprise.
“Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together.Bound by love, happily ever after,” wrote Neeraj in the post, including the photos.
Himani Mor is from Sonipat and is currently studying in the USA.
Neeraj’s uncle Bhim told news agency PTI that the marriage took place in the country and the couple has left for honeymoon.
“Yes, the marriage took place in India two days back. I can’t tell the place where it took place,” Bhim told from his village at Khandra near Panipat in Haryana.
“The girl is from Sonipat and she is studying in the US. They have left the country for honeymoon and I am not aware of the places where they are going. We wanted to keep it like that,” said Bhim, who stays with the Olympic double medallist at Khandra.
The wedding follows Neeraj’s remarkable achievement of winning his second Olympic medal, a silver, at the Paris Games.
Back in 2021, Neeraj made history as the first Indian to secure an individual gold medal in a track and field event at the Olympics.
Neeraj, who won a gold in Tokyo Olympics and a silver in the Paris Game, was earlier training in South Africa after he roped in world record holder javelin legend Jan Zelezny of Czech Republic.
Neeraj also recently said that he along with the support of World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of India will be bringing a Continental Tour Javelin-Only competition to the country.
While the venue is yet to be finalised, the event is slated to take place in May this year and will see some of the best male and female javelin throwers from around the world – headlined by Chopra – compete on Indian soil for the first time.
“It has been a longstanding dream of mine to organise and bring a world-class javelin competition to India. With the help of JSW Sports and the Athletics Federation of India, we are making this happen. I am sure that my fellow athletes and the fans in India will both create an experience that will be spoken about for a long time. I am excited to see how big we can make this,” Chopra was quoted from a release by JSW Sports Media.
Neeraj is keen to make the event an annual fixture in the world athletics calendar, with an eye on adding more track and field disciplines to the meeting.
