As part of the seven-day mourning period announced by the state government following the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad has declared Friday, December 27, as a holiday. Outpatient services (OP) at NIMS will remain suspended for the day, with emergency services continuing uninterrupted. Regular OP services will resume on Saturday, December 28.

“The state government has declared December 27 a holiday as a mark of respect, in addition to announcing a seven-day mourning period. NIMS has declared a holiday in this regard, and patients are requested to observe and pray during this solemn occasion,” said Dr. Bheerappa Nagari, Director of NIMS.

However, other major government hospitals in Hyderabad, including Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital, will function as usual. “We have not received any directives from the health department, so OP services will operate as scheduled,” said Dr. Raj Kumari, Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.

At Osmania General Hospital, routine OPs and emergencies will continue, while other programmes have been deferred for the day in light of the government’s declaration. “Except for routine OPs and emergencies, other programmes will not be conducted today,” said Dr. Rakesh Sahay, Superintendent of Osmania General Hospital.
