Visakhapatnam: Vizianagaram district medical and health officer (DMHO) S. Jeevan Rani on Tuesday sought to reassure the public saying there is no immediate cause for concern with regard to the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) disease.

However, she underlined the importance of being vigilant and adopting preventive measures similar to those implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DMHO asserted that the government is closely monitoring the global situation surrounding HMPV and has directed health officials to remain alert. “While HMPV has not been classified as a severe threat, we advise people to wear masks and practice good hygiene,” she stated.

Dr. Jeevan Rani disclosed that in addition to addressing HMPV cases, they have launched a door-to-door survey for the early detection of cancers. Further, the National Leprosy Eradication Programme is set to commence on January 20. She asked residents to report any unusual symptoms.
