SRINAGAR: Indian‑Australian endurance athlete Om Satija on Sunday concluded his extraordinary 5,000‑kilometre “One India Run”, reaching Srinagar after a gruelling 110‑day journey that began in Kanyakumari.

The 23‑year‑old, who is based in Melbourne, covered nearly 4,950 kilometres before completing the final stretch at the lakeside Zabarwan Park, marking the end of one of the most ambitious youth‑led endurance campaigns in recent years. Satija described the run as a mission far bigger than a physical challenge.

Speaking after crossing the finish line, he said his goal was to inspire young people to embrace fitness, discipline and a purposeful life, especially at a time when many youths struggle with distractions and negative influences. He emphasised that staying away from drugs and harmful activities is essential for building a strong future, adding that fitness strengthens not only the body but also the mind, confidence and resilience.

Reflecting on the deeper meaning behind the journey, Satija said the run symbolised the power of discipline, consistency and intent, proving that extraordinary goals can be achieved when driven by a clear purpose. His message to young people was simple yet powerful- “dream boldly, work relentlessly and contribute positively to society”.

The “One India Run” initiative was designed to promote physical fitness, mental strength, resilience and social responsibility among India’s youth. Alongside its motivational mission, the campaign is also raising funds for the Udayan Foundation, which supports children from marginalised and leprosy‑affected communities. Organisers have set a target of ₹60 lakh, aiming to fund the education of nearly 1,000 children over the next five years. So far, approximately ₹20 lakh has been raised through public contributions, community gatherings and run‑club events held in cities such as Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi and Ludhiana.

Throughout the journey, Satija maintained an impressive average of 50 kilometres per day, showcasing remarkable endurance and determination. He now aims to become the first person to run the entire length of India along the east coast and the youngest athlete to complete a full south‑to‑north run across the country.

Satija’s achievement stands as a testament to the power of youth‑driven initiatives and the impact of combining athletic endurance with social purpose, said an official. He added, “His run has not only connected thousands across India but has also sparked conversations around health, discipline and community upliftment—values he hopes will continue to inspire long after the finish line.”
