In a midnight crackdown to strengthen Hyderabad’s internal security, 5,000 police personnel carried out coordinated raids across 562 hotels and lodges under Operation Kavach.
City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the objective was to thwart the movement of anti‑social elements. The searches, conducted between 11 pm and 1 am, focused on verifying guest registers and ensuring lodges were checking identity cards. Sajjanar personally supervised inspections in high‑density areas near Nampally railway station and Ameerpet, interacting with guests to confirm their credentials.
The operation spanned all seven zones of the Commissionerate. Khairatabad saw the highest number of checks with 119 establishments, followed by Shamshabad (92), Jubilee Hills and Golconda (86 each), Secunderabad (82), Rajendranagar (53) and Charminar (44).
Following the raids, strict directives were issued to hotel management. Sajjanar ordered operators to physically verify identity cards, maintain accurate registers with contact details and timings, and ensure no rooms were rented to minors. He warned against incomplete or fraudulent entries.
Hotels must install high‑definition CCTV cameras covering entry and exit points, keep systems operational round‑the‑clock, and prepare for a forthcoming Digital Visitor Management System. Staff and citizens were urged to report suspicious activity to Dial 100, with non‑compliant establishments facing prosecution.
Senior officers including additional CPs M. Srinivasulu and Tafseer Iqbal, joint CPs D. Joel Davis and N. Shweta, DCPs R. Venkateswarlu, S Chaitanya Kumar, V Aravind Babu and Lavanya Naik Jadhav and several zonal DCPs and ACPs participated in the operation.
EOW books man for ₹3.22 crore fraud
Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police registered a case against a man accused of cheating at least 16 persons of over ₹3.22 crore by allegedly luring them with false promises, failing to repay the money and later threatening victims with suicide videos and messages.
The case was registered following a complaint lodged by a resident of RC Puram, Sangareddy, who alleged that the accused collected huge sums from multiple individuals on different occasions after assuring them of returns and repayment.
According to the victim’s complaint, victims transferred money through cash and credit card transactions over several years, believing the accused’s assurances to be genuine. However, the accused neither returned the money nor maintained communication, instead sending suicide‑related videos and notes to victims and remaining absconding for certain periods, causing severe mental distress.
Police said the complainant alone paid ₹14.45 lakh between November 2023 and January 2026. Investigators found that at least 16 victims had collectively lost ₹3.22 crore. Individual losses ranged from ₹4 lakh to ₹45 lakh, with several transactions dating back to 2018. It is suspected that there are many more victims yet to come forward, and the number of affected persons is expected to rise as the investigation progresses.
It is also alleged that the accused is planning to travel to the United States on an H1B visa and currently holds a valid Canada visa. Police suspect he may attempt to leave the country to evade legal proceedings and repayment obligations. Based on the complaint and supporting material, Cyberabad EOW police registered an FIR and launched further investigation into the alleged fraud.

Advocate son claims recce near his house, seeks security
Fifteen days after senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin was murdered, a suspicious man in a black SUV without a number plate was seen near the crime scene and outside the victim’s residence, said the victim’s son M.S. Farhan said.
A six-foot-tall bearded man, aged around 35 to 40 years, wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and orange-and-black sports shoes, was captured on CCTV near the location where Moizuddin was killed on May 23. The footage was recorded around the same time members of the Wakf Protection Committee had gathered to discuss the murder case, according to Moizuddin’s son Farhan.
“The suspicious man, aged between 35 and 40 years, in a black-tinted glass car appeared at the same time when our Wakf Protection Committee members had come to meet to discuss the case,” Farhan told Deccan Chronicle on Saturday.
Farhan alleged that the vehicle, which had no registration plate and tinted windows, remained in the area for about 25 minutes. He said he lodged a complaint with the Nampally police on Friday night, stating that the man appeared to be conducting surveillance of his residence, visitors and family members.
In his complaint, Farhan stated: “I would like to bring to your urgent notice a highly suspicious activity outside my residence at about 7.37 pm, a black car without a number plate and full tinted windows stood outside my gate for around 25 minutes.”
Farhan said he has repeatedly sought police protection, claiming he is the complainant and a key witness in his father’s murder case. He alleged that the accused, Mujahid Alam Khan, and his associates had threatened him before the murder and said his family continues to face security concerns.
“Despite my requests, except for the CCTV cameras that we have and a couple of CCTV cameras at a gym near our house, there are no police CCTV cameras even after a brutal murder. Who will be responsible for a similar incident with my family or me?” Farhan questioned.
A police officer said patrolling in Shantinagar has been intensified following the complaint. Police have also formed a special team to identify and trace the man seen in the CCTV footage.
