Visakhaptanam: The Parvathipuram District Hospital, upgraded a year ago from a 100-bed regional facility to a 150-bed district hospital, continues to struggle in providing comprehensive services due to ongoing construction delays.

Medical superintendent Dr. B. Vagdevi addressed these challenges in a statement on Monday, acknowledging that while the upgrade marked a significant step forward for healthcare in the region, incomplete construction work is limiting the hospital’s ability to operate at full capacity.
Her comments followed a local news report highlighting the hospital’s operational difficulties. Dr. Vagdevi emphasised that the issue had been raised with higher authorities multiple times, stressing the urgency of addressing the infrastructure shortcomings.
In a related issue, Dr. B. Srinivasa Rao, Medical Superintendent of the Sitampet Area Hospital, voiced similar concerns. Despite the hospital’s upgrade to a 100-bed facility, the required infrastructure remains incomplete. Construction funded by a Rs. 19 crore grant from NABARD is still unfinished, leaving the hospital unable to accommodate the additional beds.
