A native of Mathoor, Chenneerkkara, Kannan was widely respected for his contributions to the party and the community.

He is survived by his wife, Sajithamol, and two children, Shiva Kiran and Shiva Harshan.

Paying tribute to the late leader, Chennithala described Kannan as a prominent young leader in the district who made significant contributions not only to the Congress party but also to parliamentary democracy. “His death is a tremendous loss for the Congress movement. We have lost an energetic and promising leader,” Chennithala remarked.
