Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills witnessed a tense situation on Sunday as members of student unions staged a protest outside Allu Arjun’s residence. The protesters, claiming to be students, held Allu Arjun responsible for the death of Revathi and demanded an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 crore for her family.
The stampede on the night of December 4 during the premiere show of Pushpa 2: The Rule has taken a new turn with protesters gathering outside the actor’s residence on Sunday evening.
It may be recalled that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy slammed Allu Arjun’s decision to wave to fans getting out of his car roof which led to the mob going out of control. He also alleged that Allu Arjun was escorted out of the theatre by the ACP himself who informed him about the death of a woman in the stampede.
On Saturday evening, Allu Arjun addressed a press conference stating he was pained by the false information being put out against and claimed that he had no clue about the woman’s death till the next day. He also stated he only left the theatre after the Sandhya theatre management had informed him contrary to what the CM said.
A day after the actor’s presser, Hyderabad CP CV Anand addressed the media narrating the timeline of incidents on the day of stampede. It was part of the police’ annual roundup 2024. The cops also released the footage from Sandhya theatre and stated that they did inform Allu Arjun personally about the tragedy and requested the actor to leave the theatre as the crowd was unmanageable. The cop also said that Allu Arjun refused to move immediately and insisted on watching the movie with his fans.
Minutes after the police press conference, several people gathered outside the Pushpa actor’s residence demanding Rs 1 crore compensation for the Sandhya stampede victim’s kin. They also barged into the house and also destroyed planters at his house in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
Given the escalating situation, additional police forces were deployed to control the crowd and maintain law and order. Allu Arjun was not present at his residence during the incident.
