Hyderabad: Rachakonda police have sought fast-tracking the trial in the murder of Venkata Madhavi, who was killed by her husband P. Gurumurthy in Meerpet and her body parts bouled and disposed of.

Meanwhile, in the absence of the victim’s body, samples being tested by forensic experts will be matched with samples of either the mother or daughter of the deceased to prove the crime.

Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu told Deccan Chronicle that they believe in the principle of corpus delicti, a Latin phrase on the importance of ‘body of the crime’.

Elaborating, he pointed out that as the police don’t have the victim’s body, the circumstances constituted a crime and the samples collected during the investigation will play a major role in this case. The samples that have been collected are blood, hair and tissues that were found at the crime scene.

“These samples will play a crucial role in connecting the dots and proving the crime beyond any doubt,” he said.

It can be recalled that the police recorded statements of the daughter, son, mother, father and uncle of the deceased, apart from the landlord, and neighbours.

Meanwhile, in a bid to fast-track the case, the commissioner has written to the DGP about the urgency given the grave nature of the offence.

The DGP’s approval will be forwarded to the director of prosecution, who will then submit it to the relevant court for approval of a fast-tracked trial.

However, further analysis has to establish whether these samples belong to Madhavi towards they will conduct a DNA test on her mother or daughter. The results of these tests will prove crucial to establish the murder and convicting of Gurumurthy.
