After competing with Telugu and Hindi movies, SS Rajamouli’s ambitious action-adventure Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, is reportedly eyeing a worldwide release on April 7, 2027. According to trade circles, the big-budget entertainer could face stiff competition from a few major Hollywood releases arriving during the same period, setting up an intense battle for IMAX and premium-format screens across global markets.

Produced by KL Narayana on a reported budget of around Rs 1,000 crore, Varanasi has been extensively shot across India, Africa and Japan. Apart from Mahesh Babu, the film features Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles. The film is said to blend Indian mythology with a globe-trotting spy adventure aimed at international audiences.

Trade analysts feel Rajamouli’s strong global brand, built on the success of Baahubali and RRR, could help Varanasi command a strong overseas opening despite the Hollywood competition. The film’s large-scale visual effects, action set pieces and MM Keeravaani’s music are expected to attract audiences in key international markets, including the US, UK and the Middle East.

With a multilingual release strategy and dubbed versions planned across several languages, Varanasi is being positioned as one of India’s biggest global cinematic ventures. While an official release date and the competing Hollywood titles are yet to be formally announced, industry circles are closely watching the film’s rollout as it gears up for what could be one of the biggest box-office clashes of 2027.
