The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) in the wake of increasing public complaints about the alleged anti-social activities on Kuttiyadi pass. The report will have to be submitted in two weeks after initiating legal action to address safety concerns raised by the public.

The order issued by the rights panel pointed out that there were serious complaints revealing the presence of drug hotspots and increased anti-social activities around the 10th and 11th hairpin curves on the mountain pass. Immediate action should be taken to ensure safe and hassle-free movement of motorists and tourists, the order said.

Judicial member K. Byjunath, who issued the order after registering a suo motu case, also asked the District Police Chief to file a comprehensive compliance report. The case would be considered at the Commission’s next sitting in Kozhikode on December 23.
