Gaming platform Roblox is requiring all users in India and other countries to verify their age in order to access chat features.

Roblox is a virtual universe gaming platform where players worldwide can create and play other games. The platform has faced flak both in the U.S. and overseas over children being exposed to adult content.

Roblox said that knowing people’s approximate age when chatting would help the company create a “safer, more age-appropriate experience for everyone.” As part of this process, users will be allowed to chat with those in similar age groups, per the company.

In case of any inaccuracies, users can reach out to the company for further verification.

The gaming company said that images and videos used for the Facial Age Estimation process would be deleted after being processed by its vendor Persona.

Roblox noted that over 50% of daily active users in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands had already completed the age check, as well as tens of millions of global users.

“With this change, Roblox becomes the first large online gaming platform to require age checks for users of all ages to access chat. This marks an important investment in user safety and enables age-appropriate communication and limits conversations between adults and minors,” said Roblox in a statement on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).
