While ticket verification remains their primary responsibility, South Central Railway’s (SCR) travelling ticket inspectors (TTIs) routinely go beyond their mandate to ensure passenger safety and security. Five TTIs of the Secunderbad division have been recognised for exemplary acts, ranging from rescuing passengers and safeguarding children to preventing accidents and detecting illegal activities, on Friday.
TTI Sri Sai Ram intercepted a child abuse suspect at Lakdi-ka-pul station and handed him over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). He also played a key role in tracing several runaway and missing children at Begumpet and Secunderabad stations and on trains, coordinating with child welfare authorities to reunite them with their families.
On June 2, TTI M. Sai Shankar pulled the emergency alarm chain to save a passenger who had slipped into a dangerous position between a moving train and the platform at Dornakal station while working on Train No. 12861 Express. The passenger was later shifted to a hospital with assistance from the RPF.
On the same day, TTI M.V. Subba Reddy administered timely CPR to a passenger who suffered cardiac arrest on board Train No. 12285 Duronto Express near Nizamuddin. The passenger was subsequently shifted to a hospital, helping save a life.
TTI Uttam Singh prevented a potential mishap on May 29 after noticing smoke emerging from a toilet on Train No. 18045 East Coast Express between Dornakal and Gundratimadugu stations. He immediately stopped the train and initiated safety procedures. Another TTI, Balraju, swiftly responded to a smoke detector alert on Train No. 12714 Satavahana Express on July 8, enforcing anti-smoking regulations and ensuring passenger safety.
TTI Subba Reddy also detected an attempted narcotics smuggling case on board Train No. 11020 Konark Express and alerted security agencies for timely action. Meanwhile, TTI Racheal Ranjitha recovered valuable electronic equipment left behind by a passenger at Begumpet station on June 22 and ensured its return to the rightful owner. SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava commended the personnel for their dedication and service beyond the call of duty, according to a press release.
