Magnolia Pictures has released the official trailer for Sister Midnight, an offbeat dark comedy from Indian filmmaker Karan Kandhari. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, follows Uma, a rebellious small-town woman who struggles to adjust to married life in Mumbai.

Played by actress Radhika Apte, Uma finds herself trapped in an arranged marriage, confined to a tiny apartment with a husband she barely knows, and surrounded by nosy neighbors. As the chaos of city life pushes her to the edge, she begins to embrace her own wild, unpredictable nature.

The film is backed by a soundtrack, marking the composing debut of Interpol frontman Paul Banks. Alongside Apte, the film stars Ashok Pathak, Chhaya Kadam, and Smita Tambe.

Following its Cannes debut, Sister Midnight continued its festival run at London, Denver, and Sitges, winning Best Film in the Next Wave section at Fantastic Fest. Kandhari previously directed Bye Bye Miss Goodnight.

Magnolia Pictures will release Sister Midnight in select U.S. theaters starting in May 2025.
