Sivaganga police have arrested four men in Maharashtra in connection to a gold theft case from a jewellery store employee in Karaikudi.

Police said, based on a complaint filed by Vijayaraja, 40, who lost 1.5kg of gold during a robbery in Karaikudi on August 4, a case was registered and investigation was kicked off.

The complainant was threatened by a group of men who had come in a car while he was walking after getting off a bus at the bus stand. The group threatened him and robbed the gold he possessed.

In the preliminary investigation, police arrested Manoj, 35, of Maharashtra, a co-worker of the complainant.

Further investigation revealed that Manoj had asked his friends from Maharashtra to commit the robbery. After the robbery, he also helped them to escape from the location.

The police team, which was investigating the case, went to Maharashtra to arrest four other suspects – Prashanth, Durga, Ramdevpa and Chettan – from various locations Navi Mumbai, Solapur, Satara and Sangli, police added.
