A 21-year-old BTech student was killed after being hit by a train between Carmelaram and Byappanahalli railway stations on Friday night.

The deceased, Sundapalli Sai Mahesh, was returning after delivering a parcel. Mahesh had attended an interview at a private company in the city and was waiting for the result. In the meanwhile, he joined a company as a delivery executive 10 days ago.

On Friday night, he went to deliver a parcel and was returning to his bike parked on the other side of the railway tracks. While walking on the slope close to the tracks, he lost control and fell and was hit by a train. Mahesh was thrown up in the air and crashed 100 metres away. He died on the spot due to multiple injuries, the police said.

The locopilot alerted the Byappanahalli railway police who rushed to the spot and shifted the body.

Mahesh, according to the police, lost his father while he was studying pre-university. He is survived by his mother and a younger brother who is studying pre-university in a village in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, the police said. He wanted to get into a corporate job. Mahesh was scheduled to attend another interview on Saturday, the police said, quoting a family member who had come to receive his body.
