T.N. govt. raises insurance cover to ₹2 lakh for accident victims

The State government has raised the insurance cover for treatment up to ₹2 lakh for accident victims under the ‘Innuyir Kappom Nammai Kakkum 48’ scheme, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian said on Tuesday. 

The Minister said so far 3,20,264 persons had benefited under the scheme which was launched on December 18, 2021, by absorbing the cost of hospitalisation for the first 48 hours of accident victims. Currently, 721 healthcare facilities, including 248 government and 473 private facilities, are empanelled to provide treatment under the scheme.  

Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, and the Government Medical College hospitals in Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai were given awards for their performance in connection with the scheme. A special prize was given to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General hospital.  

Awards were given to the headquarters hospitals in Cuddalore, Athur in Salem district, and Wallajah hospital in Ranipet district. The hospitals fall under the Directorate of Medical and Rural Services. The Minister also distributed prizes to private hospitals and 108 ambulance emergency medical technicians who had performed well under the scheme.
